What Is Exterior Detailing?
A good exterior detail is a careful, methodical clean of everything on the outside of your vehicle: paint, glass, trim, wheels and tires. Unlike an automatic car wash, which can leave behind film and add fine scratches over time, a detail takes the time to safely remove dirt from every panel and finish it by hand.
As a mobile car detailing service, we do it all on site. We’re 100% self-contained, so we never need to borrow your water or power.
Signs Your Exterior Needs a Detail
- A film of road grime that doesn’t come off at the car wash
- Brake dust baked onto your wheels
- Bugs on the bumper, grille and mirrors after a summer drive
- Dull, faded-looking black trim
- A white haze of salt along the lower doors and rocker panels in winter
Our Exterior Detailing Process
- Inspection. We walk around the vehicle with you, point out problem areas and confirm what’s in your quote.
- Wheels and tires first. Wheels and tires are the dirtiest part of the car, so we clean them before the paint to avoid splashing grime onto clean panels.
- Wash. We wash the paint, glass and trim with safe techniques that minimize the risk of new scratches.
- Detail the details. Bugs, door jambs, emblems and grille get extra attention.
- Dry and finish. We dry the vehicle carefully, clean the glass and dress the tires.
- Final walk-around. We look it over together. If anything was missed, we take care of it on the spot.
Kansas City Weather and Your Paint
Kansas City throws everything at your paint. From November through March, road salt and brine cling to the lower half of the vehicle and can speed up rust if they’re left on. Spring brings pollen and tree sap. Summer adds intense UV and bugs, plus bird droppings that can etch the clear coat if they sit in the sun. Regular exterior detailing removes these contaminants before they cause lasting damage.
Want More Protection?
An exterior detail leaves your paint clean, but clean paint still needs protection. You can add a spray or hand wax or sealant for extra gloss and short-term protection. For protection that lasts much longer, a ceramic coating bonds to the paint and makes future washes faster and easier. If your paint has swirls or light scratches, paint correction before protection will give you the best result.
How Long Does It Take?
Time depends on the vehicle’s size and condition and any add-ons. We’ll include a time estimate with your free quote.
Keeping Your Exterior Clean Between Details
- Rinse salt off the lower body and wheel wells regularly in winter.
- Remove bird droppings and bug splatter as soon as you can.
- Skip brush-style automatic washes that can scratch the paint.
- Park in the shade or a garage during the summer when possible.

FAQ
Exterior Detailing Questions
Is wax included with an exterior detail?
Spray or hand wax and sealant are available as an add-on so you can choose the level of protection you want. For the longest-lasting protection, ask us about ceramic coating.
Will an exterior detail remove scratches and swirl marks?
A detail will clean the paint and improve its look, but it won’t remove swirls or scratches. That takes paint correction, which is machine polishing that levels the clear coat. Text us photos and we’ll tell you which one your paint needs.
Can you detail my car if I don’t have a hose or outlet?
Yes. We’re 100% self-contained and bring our own water and power, so we can work in a driveway, a parking lot or at your office.
How often should I get an exterior detail?
Many Kansas City drivers book one every season, and more often in winter to keep salt off the paint and undercarriage. A maintenance plan makes it easy to stay on schedule.
