Boat Detailing Built Around Gel Coat
Sun and water are hard on a boat. Over time, UV breaks down the gel coat, leaving it dull, chalky and faded. Water spots, scum lines and grime collect along the hull, and metal hardware loses its shine. A standard wash doesn’t fix any of that.
That’s why our boat detailing is built around gel coat and fiberglass restoration. We remove oxidation, polish the gel coat back to a shine and finish the details, from rails and cleats to windows and seating.
Signs Your Boat Needs Detailing
- Gel coat that leaves a chalky residue on your hand
- Faded color, especially on the sides that get the most sun
- Yellowing or scum lines along the waterline
- Dull or spotted stainless and aluminum hardware
- Cloudy windshield or windows
- Dirty, mildewy seats and interior after storage
Our Boat Detailing Process
- Estimate from photos. Send pictures of the hull, deck and interior, plus the boat’s length. We’ll text back an estimate, then confirm the exact price in person.
- Inspection. On site, we walk around the boat with you and note problem areas.
- Wash. The hull and deck are thoroughly washed to remove loose grime.
- Gel coat restoration. We remove oxidation and polish the gel coat and fiberglass to bring back color and gloss.
- Metal and glass. Rails, cleats and hardware are polished, along with windows and the windshield.

- Final walk-around. We look it over together and take care of anything that was missed.
Ready for Kansas City Lake Season
Whether you spend summer weekends on Smithville Lake, Longview Lake, Lake Jacomo, Blue Springs Lake or Lake Lotawana, the start of the season is when your boat should look its best. Detailing in the spring removes the dust and grime of winter storage and restores the shine before the first launch. A fall detail before storage keeps grime from sitting on the gel coat all winter.
Why Gel Coat Restoration Matters
Gel coat is the protective outer layer of a fiberglass boat. When it oxidizes, it isn’t just cosmetic. Neglected gel coat keeps breaking down and gets harder to bring back. Restoring it early keeps your boat looking good, protects the fiberglass underneath and helps it hold its value.
How Long Does It Take?
Boat detailing time depends on the boat’s length, the condition of the gel coat and how much restoration it needs. We’ll give you a time estimate along with your quote.
Keeping Your Boat Looking Good
- Rinse the boat with fresh water after each outing.
- Use a cover when it’s not in use to cut down on UV exposure.
- Wipe down metal hardware so water spots don’t build up.
- Book a spring and fall detail to stay ahead of oxidation.
We also detail RVs and campers with the same gel coat restoration process.

FAQ
Boat Detailing Questions
Can you bring back my boat’s faded, chalky gel coat?
In most cases, yes. That chalky look is oxidation, and gel coat restoration removes it and polishes the surface back to a shine. Badly neglected gel coat may need more work, so send us photos and we’ll let you know what to expect.
Do you come to my house or storage location?
We’re fully mobile and self-contained with our own water and power, so we can detail your boat where it’s parked. Tell us where it’s kept when you text for a quote and we’ll confirm the details.
How do you quote boat detailing?
Boats vary a lot in size and condition, so we estimate from photos. Send pictures of the hull, deck and interior along with the boat’s length and we’ll text back an estimate, then confirm the exact price in person.
When is the best time to detail a boat?
Spring, before lake season, is the most popular time to restore the gel coat and clean everything up. Fall, before storage, is a great time too, so your boat starts next season clean.
